8 Must-Haves for Your Business Card

Although digital marketing continues to rise in popularity, nothing will ever beat the tried-and-true effectiveness of the business card. Your business card is oftentimes the first point of contact people have with your company and brand, especially at networking events, conferences, etc.

As you’ve probably noticed, people can be bombarded with business cards if they are attending events or other scenarios such as that, so how do you stand out from the rest?

Here’s the 8 things your business card must have:

  • Brand consistency: your logo should be a very prominent (if not the most prominent) part of your business card design. You want to ensure, above all else, that people remember your company name and brand. But you also want to sure that all of your marketing collateral, including your business card, has a consistent brand presence. This means the typefaces, colours and imagery should all be reflective of one another.
  • Simplicity: keep things simple with your card design, you don’t want to try and cram too much information on a small space. Make things memorable, but brief; you only have a few seconds to get someone’s attention. Also keep in mind things like the size of images and lines, they make look good on your screen but remember that things will be much smaller once printed.
  • Essential information: ensure you always have your name, title, company name, contact information, website and social media icons/handles.
  • Legibility: use typefaces that will translate well into print, and will be easy to read for a variety of demographics. Using fonts that are too complex or small, won’t serve to benefit you.
  • Creative and unique: what is setting you apart from the other business cards? Whether it be a bold graphic, great colours or different types of printed material, there’s a lot of options for standing out.
  • Know your audience: who are you targeting with your business? Be aware of the look and feel of your card and who you want to see it. Designs will vary depending upon the industry.
  • Proof before print: before you commit to any printing, ensure that you proof your business cards thoroughly for spelling and grammar mistakes, incorrect information, etc.
  • Choose the right paper: don’t spare costs when it comes to your business cards, because this will be many people’s first impression of your brand and your business—so stand out! You can choose various weights of paper stock or creative features to stand out (glossy, gold foil, etc.).

Now that you’ve created the perfect business card for your brand, ensure you always do these things with your cards:

  • Always carry business cards with you, you never know who you will meet or where.
  • Include business cards with all your correspondences or marketing materials.
  • Give potential clients or influencers more than one card, this way they can keep one and hand yours to other potential clients.
