Elements Every Great Website Has

Whether you are launching a new website this year, or auditing your current one, there’s a few elements every great website has in common. Reference this list, and you’ll ensure your website is on track to be among the best in online presence.

  • Critical business information: ensure you identify the basics of your company on your website: who, what, where, when and why. Anything someone would need to know about your business, should really be on your website. For example, if your business sells physical products, photos and/or descriptions of those products is helpful to the user.
  • Easy navigation: once someone lands on your website, make sure it’s easy for them to navigate each section of your page, and that each page of your website is clearly indicated with the navigation as well. It should be simple for anyone to get on your site and find what they are looking for.
  • Contact information: if you’re going to take the time to ensure all of the pertinent information is on your website, in order to keep users there, make sure they can contact you. Your contact information should either be readily available on every page of your website, or have a clear path to find it on every page of your website.
  • Security measures: if you sell anything on your website or are collecting personal data, give your users peace of mind by including an SSL certificate, which encrypts communication so it’s secure.
  • Social media: be where your audience is, and if your audience is online, they’re on social media too. Make sure your social media presence is visible on your website, that might include links to other pages or live feeds from social media sites.
  • Mobile-friendly: this is no longer an option for websites, you must have a mobile-friendly presence. Last year Google put hard emphasis on mobile-friendly websites, making them a priority and actually dropping the ranking of websites that are not mobile-friendly.

Some other things to consider are adding a FAQ (frequently asked questions) page, or incorporating some fresh design ideas to your website to make it really stand out.
